Christina Lagogiannis is a Year 7 student of our school and is battling with Osteo Sarcoma, a rare form of cancer which was detected in her femur bone.

Christina was diagnosed in January 2014. She promptly began Chemotherapy, at Monash Clayton Hospital, she then had a full knee and femur replacement at Melbourne Royal Children’s Hospital, then underwent further chemotherapy, during that period Christina’s heart function dropped by 26% due to one of the chemotherapy drug, so that drug was dropped from her treatment.

In June 2014, while still undergoing chemotherapy there were lesions detected in her lungs. Oncologists weren’t too concerned as she still had 3 months of chemotherapy treatment to go. Once treatment was finished in early September she again had to undergo further surgery on her knee due to infection and was on anti-biotics (orally and through IV) for 3 more months.

The Oncologist’s believed the lesions in her lungs could have been an infection due to the infection in her knee, so after a month of anti-biotics they conducted a CT scan only to show that the lesions had grown in size, so she was booked in immediately to undergo a biopsy on her right lung, which was conducted via keyhole surgery, they removed 4 lesions durin
g this procedure which 3 of were malignant. They were then worried as the left lung had 2 lesions from date of Diagnosis, so then 4 weeks later they performed an open surgery on her left lung at which time 5 lesions were removed which 3 of were malignant.

3 weeks later another CT scan was conducted, lesions were once again showing up on both lungs, 3 on the right and 2 on the left. They once again conducted open surgery on the right lung where 7 lesions were removed all of which were malignant.

The family has now been told that Christina is at 4th stage of cancer and are offering chemotherapy with no percentage rate of remission and most of all survival.

This has brought the family to the conclusion that getting to Germany is their next step in her fight as undergoing treatment there, she has been given a 95% chance of either over 50% in remission or full remission and even possibly cured.

So help our little battler get the treatment she deserves and a fighting chance at life.
